Afro Hair Course
Our Patron Shamara Roper, hairstylist to some of the biggest stars including KSI, Clara Amfo and Ella Eyre. Her work has been seen on The Brits, Barbie Premiere red carpet, and Number 1 music videos.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Often the biggest worry is not even about the hair, it’s about using the wrong language and offending people.
Wouldn’t be awesome to feel totally relaxed the matter who walked through the door?
Shamara has designed this course for beginners or pros looking to tighten their skills and knowledge.
WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
The Final Checks team believe that every artist should be educated and feel confident when on set or working with a client. Having different background knowledge of different cultures will enhance your career but be part of a movement to celebrate all hair types.
WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE?
- Learn the history of Black hair. How to hold an educated conversation with your client.
- Understanding what words are appropriate and respectful to your customer.
- How to properly handle Afro-Textured hair with protection and care for each strand Language.
- Core styling techniques: Braiding, twisting, cornrows, heatless stretching methods, smoothing and blow drying
- Identifying curl patterns and textures and understanding the many factors the influence and promote healthy Afro hair
- How to define and manipulate curls
- How to create beautiful styles and shapes with Afro-Textured hair
- Adding extension.
- Product and equipment knowledge
- Styling on how to get the most definition into black hair.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of makeup needed but no necessary experience required.
Students over 18 (17yrs will be accepted if turning 18 during the course are accepted), subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement.
PROGRESSION
Once Learners have achieved the Afro Hair unit they may progress on to:
Artist to find employment in a variety of areas:

- Film
- Bridal / Proms / Clients
- Own Business
- Editorial/ Press Events
