BTEC Entry Level 1 Certificate in Work Skills

BEAUTY, ENTERPRISE & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS PROGRAMME

‘A different kind of Level 1 programme for young people who are ready to discover what they can do.’

LEVEL UP could be right for you if…

  • Traditional education hasn’t worked for you.
  • You’re not quite ready for college or employment.
  • You learn better by doing.
  • You’d feel more comfortable in a smaller group.
  • You want to build your confidence.
  • You need some extra support with your next step.
  • You’re interested in creative industries.
  • You want to become more independent.

Not ready for a big college environment? That’s OK.

LEVEL UP is designed for young people who might need more time, smaller groups, practical learning and the right people around them before taking their next step.

You don’t need to know exactly what career you want.

You don’t need previous beauty experience.

And you don’t need to learn in the same way as everyone else.

Come as you are. We’ll help you discover what’s next.

Being creative is where we start. Your future could go anywhere.

Show a visual pathway with things like:

Beauty → Retail → Content → Customer Service → Production → Enterprise → Stock & Logistics → Further Education → Employment

What’s included

  • Beauty Entrepreneur Lab — develop a product idea, make a simple beauty/wellbeing product, package it and present it.
  • Teamwork & Assistant Skills — packing, labelling, stock organisation, quality control, workplace routines and working with others.
  • Sensory Product Lab — create a Calm & Care mini-range using structured, sensory-friendly activities.
  • Retail & Pop-Up Skills — product displays, customer service, product matching and simple money skills.
  • Beauty Marketing & Content — create posters, product cards, price lists and simple product photography.
  • Work Skills & Progression — build a skills passport, practise interviews and explore suitable jobs and career pathways.
  • Practical employability skills — communication, following instructions, sequencing tasks, using equipment safely and developing workplace behaviours. Your pilot demonstrated these skills through realistic beauty-production activities.
  • Personal development — confidence, communication, emotional wellbeing and learning how to work positively with others.
  • Enterprise skills — creativity, product development, entrepreneurial thinking and understanding how a product goes from an idea to something that can be presented or sold.
  • Independence & adulthood preparation — developing responsibility, confidence and skills for the learner’s next stage.
  • Career exploration — looking beyond traditional hair and makeup roles at opportunities in retail, production, manufacturing, customer service, marketing and other creative-industry roles.
  • Preparation for further education, training and employment.

DISCOVER YOUR FUTURE.

Explore careers, build your CV/skills passport, practise interviews and discover what you’re good at.

These are all grounded in the six modules you’ve already developed.

MEET THE FOUDNERS

Danielle Everitt and Sade Akinyemi

“I wanted to create LEVEL UP because I believe every young person deserves the chance to discover what they’re good at, build confidence and feel excited about their future. Not everyone is ready for a traditional college environment, and that shouldn’t limit their opportunities. I wanted to create a place where young people can learn at their own pace, feel supported, try new things and develop real skills for work and adult life. LEVEL UP is about seeing the person first  their strengths, their potential and where they want to go next.”

Danielle Everitt
Founder & CEO, Final Checks Academy CIC

MEET BEN GREEN- Our Wellbeing and SEN Coach.

Ben Green founded Activ8tion after spending years on the frontline, in schools, care settings, and community spaces, watching young people fall through the gaps of systems that were not built for them. Living with ADHD himself, Ben has a rare ability to reach young people who feel unseen, misunderstood, or written off. That lived experience, combined with 14 years of frontline practice and a BSc in Child and Youth Practice, shaped The Power Of 8; a framework built not in a classroom, but in the real world, with real young people.

Well-Being & Industry Mindset 🤝

We believe a healthy artist creates their best work. Our wellbeing training focuses on mental health, stress management, confidence building and resilience, helping students develop a strong, sustainable mindset. Learners gain tools for maintaining physical wellbeing during long production days, building balanced routines, and managing the pressures of TV, film and fashion environments, ensuring they enter the industry grounded, confident, and prepared.

🐾 MEET BUDDY

Our Therapy Dog & Very Important Team Member

Starting somewhere new can feel like a big step. That’s why Buddy, our therapy dog, is here to help make LEVEL UP feel a little more welcoming.

Buddy can offer a calm and friendly presence for learners who enjoy spending time with dogs. Whether it’s saying hello when you arrive, taking a quiet moment when you need some space, or simply having a familiar face around the academy, Buddy is part of our approach to making learners feel comfortable and supported.

Buddy can help with:

  • Settling into a new environment
  • Creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere
  • Supporting confidence and wellbeing
  • Taking a quiet break when things feel overwhelming
  • Encouraging positive social interaction
  • Making academy days feel a little less like traditional college!

Not a dog person? That’s absolutely fine.

Spending time with Buddy is always optional. We will consider each learner’s preferences, fears, allergies, sensory needs and individual support requirements.

Join us and become part of the LEVEL UP community.

Final Checks has allowed me to become more self confident and has taught me many new skills for makeup and hair. It’s a very welcoming and friendly environment which I love being a part of. It offers lots of experience with people who are already high up in the industry. At the end of the BTEC course there’s a business unit where you learn invoices, taxes, CVs and business plans etc.

Georgia LarkinFull time

I've been to a couple of academies before, and none of them have put as much interest in me as a student, they cater to your career path and take you on related jobs, with me, I studied to get into SPX later i felt it wasn't for me, i quite liked the production side of things, and even though its nit make up, Dannielle has helped me get my foot in the door with BBC,

What's also great about the course, the teachers are all currently work with in the industry which means they are always current

Nathan FosterShort course
