The week commencing 15th of May was mental health awareness week. Throughout the week our students had many different activities and exercises in support of mental health awareness starting with a TikTok workshop on Tuesday in which the students each created a short video of a makeup look inspired by mental health awareness.
On Wednesday the students had a tea and cake morning talking about their personal life, college life and also a time to get to know the staff a little better. They each passed around different cue cards with various different words on to spark a conversation on the topic of whatever was written. On reviewing the feedback from this activity we have now decided to implement this into the timetable from time to time for wellbeing for the students!
On Thursday, the students had a workshop with guru Shayk from healing humans on overcoming anxiety, how to be more mindful and tools for relaxation. They spoke about different triggers for anxiety and depression and how to cope with these matters. Each student wore something with the colour green in support of the mental health awareness week whether it be a clothing item, a shoe or even an accessory! This session really brought the group closer together and helped everyone to understand each other more.
Shayk offers group sessions for young people for free in the Romford/ Hackney area to give back to the community!
