Hair & Media Make-Up 1 Year Course (VTCT LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA)

The main purpose of the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up and Hair is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge to provide fashion and media make-up to the public and gain employment within the Media Makeup and Hair industries.

The qualification also provides opportunities for learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a make-up setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving.

Learners will also be able to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities, and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Make-up and Hair Artist.

HAIR & MEDIA MAKEUP COURSE

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This qualification combines the full range of skills and knowledge for the learner seeking employment or self-employment as a Beauty Make-up and Hair Artist at level 2. Working within Weddings, Salons, Events, Photo shoots and Prom Makeup and Hair.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

This course will provide skills in make-up and related areas such as basic skills to work as a make-up artist in a retail department store or become a freelance make-up artist. Work in salons, photo shoots, TV shows, and Weddings.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE?

The beauty makeup industry is a rapidly growing profession within the Wedding and Photographic area. There are increasing career opportunities, while new demands challenge the profession to high levels of creativity and expertise.

The main skills the learner will perform are:

  • Health and safety within the industry
  • Client Day and Evening Makeup
  • Bridal Hair and Makeup
  • Photographic make-up
  • Working with all hair types for Hair ups and hair down styles
  • Plaiting and twisting
  • Themed face painting (Halloween, Festival, Parties)

COURSE STRUCTURE

This is a blended learning course including theory modules which learners undertake at home online and completion of theory assignments set by the tutor. The main emphasis whilst at the academy, will be on the development of the necessary practical skills.

Theoretical knowledge for each unit will be assessed via portfolios, logbooks, and written evaluations, which will test your underpinning knowledge. Practical knowledge will be assessed via hands-on assignments on your peers and Performing Arts students. Written assignments and research are also required for each unit.

Portfolios should be put together in your own private study hours, we recommend students use the days they are not attending the academy as private study days, students are welcome to use the Final Checks Makeup and Hair Academy facilities during this time. Supplementary classes and tutorials can be held for those students who need extra guidance.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Final Checks Academy has a track record of offering over 100 opportunities each year. Work experience is an essential element of this course, and you will be encouraged to take part in a variety of educational visits throughout the year and supporting local productions will be a compulsory element of this course. Be offered wedding assistants, events and photoshoot opportunities paid and unpaid. We will ensure that your training fits your personal requirements.

Candidates will be expected to work independently producing research material, evidence, and assignments. Additional qualifications may be possible, such as Job Search, Interview Skills, and Functional Skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To begin this study program, you will need…

Duration: 1 Years

    • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 ideally including English and Math’s

OR

    • Performing Arts BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit level with Functional Skills/GCSE English and Math’s at grades A*-C or 9-4

OR

    • Demonstrate prior experience in the field of performing arts

PROGRESSION

Once learners have achieved the Level 2 VTCT Media Make-up they may progress on to:

BTEC level 3 Theatrical and media make-up, 2 year course

VTCT Level 2 Barbering

Artist to find employment in a variety of areas:

  • Weddings and Proms
  • Beauty Photo shoots
  • Own Business
  • Salon Owners
  • Editorial/Press Events
